AMD's 5800x and 5900x New CPU's Tested/Leaked - Tweaktown

Unread post by Vinster »

Booya.. this is what I've been wanting... this is what I was thinking was going to happen. Oct 8th will be official.. I'm so exited for this..

5800x Article Here (8 core / 8 thread): https://www.techpowerup.com/272715/firs ... 00x-tested

and then the 5900XX Article Here (10 Core / 10 Thread): https://www.tweaktown.com/news/75377/am ... index.html

This new system is going to be the bomb... I do anticipate that this will have a new socket. AMD noted at the beginning that the AM4 socket would be supported for 3 generations and they have supported 4. So I expect this to be either AM4+ or AM5.

Exciting for sure!
The 5900X looks to dethrone Intel in single-thread performance, and that is pure awesome!
It's slightly above budget for the kid, as he was aiming for the 5600, but seeing the pure awesomeness of the 5800 in this leak, it might very well be worth the investment to spend the extra $100 or so it will probably cost. And there was a leak a couple of days ago hinting at only the 5800 and 5900 would be available shortly after launch, and that the budget models will not be available before December.
The lifting of NDA and rush of benchmarks on the 8th will be like x-mas

ya, thinking the same.. once I can get a CPU. Then I'll be pushing hard for procuring the rest of the gear. I might be over zealous on the GPU... I'm not convinced I need that GPU, 3080 should do fine... but I have not see that many comparisons between the 3080/3090 and there is Big Navi being announced at the end of the month. I don't expect it to topple the 3080 from the little I've seen. but won't match the 3090... I expect the the GPU will be the last thing I buy... I have a spare 1080Ti to use (I plan on handing down my current 1080Ti to my Son)..

So the info (though biased) is looking really good. I'm really looking forward to more info and 3rd party reviews. even if they are close to what was announced today. I'm in...

What do you guys think?

I'm sold.
More or less. Impressive numbers, and really looking forward to eye some reviewers crunching the numbers.
Kiddo says he want to shell out the extra $ for the 5800X vs. saving a bit and stay on the 5600X.
Can't say I argue hard against that for a "budget" build. Not that I expect that any of those CPU's to bottleneck anything at all, but...it's sweeeeet.
Now it's closing in on how hard to play ball on the RAM. Is 3200 adequate, or are there any solidity on the recent reports on the Zen3 hitting the RAM-sweetspot at 4000? Hitting the 4000MHz will hurt the budget.

Sweet spot I've read about is the 3800mhz mark. I was currently looking at 3600mhz for my build, as the CAS was lower...

https://www.tomshardware.com/news/amd-r ... ry-support

There is a slide "leaked" that claims the "4000 is to Ryzen 5000 what 3800 was to Ryzen 3000".
If one wants to move into that territory...
I think your take of going with the 3600MHz is a sound road to venture on. Price vs. performance.
